These pen, ink and graphite drawings were used as illustrations for
"Living Among Headstones"
a book by
Shannon Applegate,
Each was drawn from existing headstones in the Applegate Pioneer Cemetery, Yoncalla, Oregon.  This particular headstone marks the grave of my great great grandparents, Melinda and Charles Applegate
This Kalapuya man is part of a body of illustrations done in collaboration with Kalapuyan elder, Esther Stutzman, descendent of Yoncalla Kommema headman, Kamaphema, commonly known as "Chief Halo," as part of curriculum guide for Indian Education programs.

Both these illustrations which were also used as jacket covers for Shannon Applegate's book, "Skookum: An Oregon Pioneer Family's History and Lore,"
were done in oil on canvas.
